Target Information
Mouse Deoxyribonuclease-1 (Dnase1) is a key enzyme responsible for the digestion of extracellular DNA, playing a crucial role in preventing autoimmune reactions. It is highly expressed in the blood and other body fluids, where it cleaves DNA to form 5'-phosphate and 3'-hydroxyl ends. DNase I activity is essential for the degradation of nucleoproteins and the prevention of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by efficiently degrading extracellular DNA. In mouse models, Dnase1 deficiency leads to the accumulation of immune complexes in glomerular vessel walls, resulting in glomerulonephritis and symptoms of SLE. Additionally, Dnase1 has been implicated in cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, where its activation may contribute to kidney injury.
