Target Information
Mouse Coagulation Factor VIII (F8) is a crucial component of the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade. It circulates in the blood as a large glycoprotein and is activated to factor VIIIa upon contact with activated factor IX (FIXa). Factor VIIIa acts as a cofactor for FIXa, catalyzing the conversion of factor X to factor Xa, which is essential for thrombin generation and clot formation. In mice, deficiencies in F8 lead to hemophilia A, a severe bleeding disorder characterized by spontaneous bleeding and prolonged bleeding after injury. F8 is primarily synthesized in the liver and endothelial cells. Its activity is tightly regulated by anticoagulant proteins such as antithrombin and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI).
