Target Information
Mouse Claudin-2 (Cldn2) is a tight junction protein that plays a crucial role in regulating paracellular permeability. It is primarily expressed in the small intestine and kidneys, where it contributes to the selective permeability of ions and water. Cldn2 forms cation-selective channels, allowing the passage of sodium and chloride ions, which is essential for maintaining electrolyte balance and fluid homeostasis. In mouse models, Cldn2 deficiency leads to altered intestinal permeability and impaired electrolyte absorption.
