Target Information
Mouse Choline O-Acetyltransferase (Chat) is a critical enzyme responsible for the biosynthesis of acetylcholine (ACh), a key neurotransmitter involved in learning, memory, and muscle control. Chat catalyzes the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to choline, forming ACh. This enzyme is highly expressed in cholinergic neurons throughout the nervous system, including the brain and neuromuscular junctions. In mouse models, Chat deficiency is associated with congenital myasthenic syndrome, characterized by muscle weakness due to impaired ACh production.
