Target Information
In mice, Cholecystokinin (Cck) is a multifunctional hormone and neurotransmitter that plays key roles in both the gastrointestinal system and the central nervous system. In the gut, Cck stimulates the secretion of pancreatic digestive enzymes and regulates gallbladder contraction and bile release, aiding in fat digestion. It also delays gastric emptying and inhibits gastric acid secretion. In the brain, Cck is involved in regulating feeding behavior, anxiety, pain perception, and memory formation. Cck interacts with various neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, such as GABA, dopamine, and serotonin, influencing synaptic plasticity and neuronal activity. Cck has been implicated in various CNS disorders, including anxiety, panic attacks, and Alzheimer's disease, suggesting potential therapeutic targets for these conditions. Additionally, Cck promotes cell growth and energy production in certain tissues.
