Target Information
Mouse Ceruloplasmin (Cp) is a multicopper oxidase and antioxidant enzyme primarily produced in the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. It plays a crucial role in maintaining iron and copper homeostasis through its ferroxidase activity, facilitating the oxidation of ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) to ferric iron (Fe³⁺) for binding to transferrin and subsequent transport in the bloodstream. Cp also exhibits antioxidant properties by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing lipid peroxidation. In addition to its metabolic functions, Cp is an acute-phase protein involved in immune responses and inflammation. Deficiencies in Cp are associated with aceruloplasminemia, a rare genetic disorder characterized by iron accumulation in various organs, leading to liver dysfunction, diabetes, and neurodegenerative symptoms. Cp has also been implicated in metabolic diseases such as diabetes and hyperlipidemia, where it may serve as a predictor and therapeutic target.
