Target Information
Mouse Caspase-9 (Casp9) is a key initiator caspase in the intrinsic apoptotic pathway, activated within the apoptosome complex. It is crucial for programmed cell death, being activated by mitochondrial cytochrome c release and subsequent recruitment by Apaf-1. Casp9 cleaves and activates downstream executioner caspases like Casp3, driving apoptosis. It is essential for normal development, particularly in the central nervous system, where its deficiency leads to severe developmental defects and perinatal lethality due to reduced apoptosis during early brain development.
