Target Information
Mouse Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein (COMP) is a large pentameric glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the assembly and stability of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cartilage and other tissues. COMP interacts with multiple ECM components, including collagens, proteoglycans, and fibronectin, to maintain tissue integrity. It is highly expressed in cartilage and bone, where it promotes collagen secretion and fibrillogenesis. Mutations in the COMP gene are associated with rare skeletal disorders such as pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH) and multiple epiphyseal dysplasia type 1 (MED1). In addition to its structural role, COMP has been implicated in various diseases, including osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and cardiovascular diseases. It serves as a biomarker for cartilage turnover and has been shown to regulate signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis.
