Target Information

Mouse Carboxypeptidase B2 (Cpb2) is a zinc-dependent metalloprotease that cleaves peptide bonds at the C-terminus of protein substrates. It is involved in the regulation of fibrinolysis, peptide signaling, and complement activation. Cpb2 is activated by thrombin and plays a role in downregulating fibrinolysis by removing C-terminal lysine residues from degraded fibrin. It also modulates the activity of bioactive peptides such as kinins and anaphylatoxins. In mouse models, Cpb2 deficiency exacerbates hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and affects vascular leakage activity. Cpb2 is expressed predominantly in the liver and is secreted into plasma. It has been implicated in various physiological processes, including liver regeneration and blood coagulation, and is associated with diseases such as chronic kidney disease and thrombosis. Cpb2 serves as a potential therapeutic target in conditions linked to fibrinolysis and complement activation.
