Target Information
Mouse Carbonic Anhydrase 1 (Ca1) is a zinc metalloenzyme that catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate and protons. It plays a crucial role in maintaining acid-base balance and facilitating CO₂ transport in the blood. Ca1 is highly expressed in red blood cells and renal tubules, where it helps regulate pH and electrolyte balance. In mouse models, Ca1 deficiency leads to metabolic acidosis and impaired renal function. Additionally, Ca1 is involved in the regulation of intracellular pH and has potential roles in various physiological processes, including respiration and bone metabolism.
