Target Information

Mouse C-type Natriuretic Peptide (Nppc) is a key regulator of electrolyte-fluid balance and vascular tone. Unlike ANP and BNP, CNP does not have strong diuretic effects but is a potent arterial and venous dilator. It plays a crucial role in bone growth by regulating endochondral ossification. Nppc knockout mice exhibit growth defects and dwarfism. CNP also affects the cardiovascular system by lowering blood pressure and acting as an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor. Its role in diseases like Lesch-Nyhan syndrome and certain cancers is under investigation, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target.
