Target Information

Mouse Broad Substrate Specificity ATP-binding Cassette Transporter ABCG2 (ABCG2) is a key member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family. It functions as an ATP-driven efflux pump, transporting a broad range of substrates, including drugs, toxins, and metabolic byproducts, out of cells. ABCG2 is highly expressed in tissues such as the placenta, liver, intestine, and blood-brain barrier, where it plays a crucial role in protecting cells from xenobiotics and maintaining tissue homeostasis. In cancer, ABCG2 is often overexpressed, contributing to multidrug resistance by expelling chemotherapeutic agents from tumor cells. Additionally, ABCG2 is involved in stem cell maintenance and differentiation, making it a potential marker for cancer stem cells.
