Target Information
Mouse 3-Mercaptopyruvate Sulfurtransferase (Mpst) is an enzyme involved in sulfur metabolism and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) production. It catalyzes the transfer of sulfur from 3-mercaptopyruvate to various acceptors, generating H₂S, which has signaling roles in the body. Mpst is expressed in many tissues, including the brain, liver, kidneys, and heart, and is localized in a cell-specific manner. It plays a role in antioxidant defense by modulating redox homeostasis and protecting cells from oxidative stress. In metabolic syndrome (MetS), Mpst deficiency exacerbates pathological changes, including glucose intolerance and vascular inflammation.
