Target Information
C19L is a membrane-associated protein belonging to the phospholipase D (PLD) superfamily, localized within the envelope of the Monkeypox virus. It is essential for the efficient conversion of the intracellular mature virus (IMV) into the intracellular enveloped virus (IEV) by facilitating membrane wrapping and remodeling. C19L catalyzes the hydrolysis of lipids, a process critical for the assembly of the viral envelope. Because it is indispensable for viral morphogenesis and the subsequent dissemination of the virus, C19L is a strategic target for developing inhibitors that block viral maturation and exit.
