Blo t 5 is the most potent and immunodominant allergen from the tropical storage mite, Blomia tropicalis. It is a highly specific marker for sensitization in tropical and subtropical regions, showing low cross-reactivity with Dermatophagoides species. Structurally, it forms a unique triple-helical bundle that is highly stable. Because more than 70% of mite-allergic patients in relevant climates react to Blo t 5, it is a primary candidate for recombinant-based component-resolved diagnostics and personalized immunotherapy.
