Target Information
Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV) is a large, brick-shaped, double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the genus Capripoxvirus within the Poxviridae family. It is an economically devastating veterinary pathogen primarily affecting cattle and water buffalo, transmitted mechanically by blood-feeding arthropod vectors. The virus infects macrophages and endothelial cells, replicating within cytoplasmic "viral factories." This process triggers severe vasculitis, characteristic necrotizing cutaneous nodules, and systemic lymphadenopathy. Key envelope antigens like P32 (attachment protein) and F13L (extracellular virion protein) are primary targets for serological diagnostics and vaccine development.
