Target Information
VP30 is a critical RNA-binding protein and a component of the Marburgvirus nucleocapsid complex. It functions primarily as a transcription anti-termination factor, enabling the viral polymerase to overcome inhibitory RNA secondary structures (stem-loops) at gene start sites. Notably, VP30 is essential for the reinitiation of transcription at the glycoprotein (GP) gene. Its activity is tightly regulated by its phosphorylation state; non-phosphorylated VP30 promotes viral transcription, whereas phosphorylation triggers a switch toward viral genome replication and enhances interaction with the nucleoprotein (NP).
