Target Information

GP2 is the membrane-proximal subunit of the Marburgvirus spike complex, generated via furin-cleavage of the GP0 precursor. It serves as the essential Type I viral fusion machine, anchoring the glycoprotein to the viral envelope. Following receptor binding and endosomal cathepsin priming, GP2 undergoes a dramatic conformational shift to insert its fusion peptide into the host membrane. This process facilitates the critical pore formation required for releasing the viral nucleocapsid into the host cytoplasm during infection.
