Target Information
The Envelope (E) protein is the major structural component of the JEV virion surface, playing a pivotal role in viral attachment and membrane fusion. It mediates binding to host cell receptors and undergoes a low-pH-dependent conformational change within endosomes to trigger fusion. As the primary target for neutralizing antibodies, the E protein is the most critical antigen for vaccine design and diagnostic development. Its highly conserved domain III is particularly significant for receptor recognition and virus-specific immune responses.
