Target Information
H6N1 is a subtype of Influenza A virus (IAV). For avian influenza viruses to infect and become transmissible among humans, alterations in the receptor binding site (RBS) of their hemagglutinin (HA) protein are necessary, shifting receptor preference from α2-3-linked (avian-like) sialosides to α2-6-linked (human-like) sialosides. The HA1 subunit, which contains a receptor binding site, facilitates the virus's attachment to specific sialyl sugar chains on the host cell surface.
