Target Information

Hemagglutinin is the primary envelope glycoprotein of the H4N6 Influenza A virus, a subtype frequently isolated from wild waterfowl and occasionally from swine. It mediates viral entry by binding to alpha 2,3-linked sialic acid (avian-type) or alpha 2,6-linked sialic acid (mammalian-type) receptors. This binding triggers endocytosis, followed by a low-pH induced conformational change in the HA2 subunit that facilitates membrane fusion. H4 HA is a significant subject in zoonotic surveillance and research into the molecular determinants of interspecies transmission.
