Target Information
Neuraminidase is a tetrameric surface glycoprotein of the H3N8 Influenza A virus, a subtype predominantly associated with equine and canine infections. Functioning as a sialidase, NA cleaves terminal sialic acid residues from host cell receptors and viral hemagglutinin. This enzymatic activity prevents the aggregation of progeny virions and facilitates their release from the host cell membrane during budding. As a critical factor in viral spread and host-range adaptation, H3N8 NA is a major target for neuraminidase inhibitors and veterinary vaccine development.
