Target Information
M2e is the highly conserved 23-amino acid N-terminal extracellular domain of the M2 ion channel protein in Influenza A (H1N1). Unlike the rapidly mutating HA and NA proteins, M2e remains nearly invariant across diverse strains, making it a "universal" vaccine target. While only present in small numbers on the virion surface, M2e is abundantly expressed on infected host cells. It serves as a primary epitope for non-neutralizing antibodies that trigger viral clearance through Fc-mediated mechanisms, including ADCC and phagocytosis.
