Target Information
N11 is a highly divergent neuraminidase-like (NAL) glycoprotein from the bat-derived H18N11 influenza virus. Structurally, it retains the typical tetrameric, box-shaped architecture of canonical neuraminidases (N1-N9), but functionally, it lacks detectable sialidase activity. Its active site is wider and lacks the conserved amino acids required to bind or cleave sialic acid. Emerging research suggests that N11 is not essential for viral release in certain models but may influence viral fitness, tissue tropism, and potential adaptation to mammalian hosts through non-enzymatic mechanisms.
