Target Information
N10 is a highly divergent neuraminidase-like (NAL) protein identified in the bat-derived H17N10 influenza virus. Unlike canonical N1-N9 subtypes, N10 lacks measurable sialidase activity due to significant amino acid substitutions in its putative active site, which is wider and lacks the conserved residues required for sialic acid binding and cleavage. Despite these functional differences, it maintains the characteristic box-shaped homotetrameric structure and a conserved calcium-binding site. Recent evidence suggests N10 may facilitate viral fitness and release through mechanisms other than glycan cleavage, potentially involving MHC class II interactions.
