Target Information

Hemagglutinin (HA) is the primary envelope glycoprotein of the Influenza A virus (H12N5), essential for viral infectivity. It functions as a Class I fusion protein that mediates viral attachment by binding to host cell surface receptors containing alpha 2,3-linked sialic acids, typical of avian species. Following endocytosis, HA undergoes a low-pH-triggered conformational change to facilitate membrane fusion. As the dominant surface antigen, H12 HA is a key target for neutralizing antibodies and serves as a critical component in avian influenza surveillance and vaccine research.
