Target Information
Guinea pig Interleukin-15 (IL-15) is a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune system by promoting the survival, proliferation, and activation of T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. Similar to IL-2, IL-15 stimulates T-lymphocyte proliferation through interactions with components of the IL-2 receptor, including IL-2RB and IL-2RG. In guinea pigs, IL-15 is primarily produced by monocytes and macrophages. It has been shown to enhance immune responses and is involved in various biological processes, such as muscle metabolism and adipocyte differentiation. Additionally, IL-15 has been implicated in the regulation of immune responses during viral infections, such as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), where its upregulation is mediated through the PKC and NF-kappaB pathways. These functions make IL-15 a key factor in the immune regulation and disease resistance mechanisms of guinea pigs.
