Target Information
Guinea pig Interferon Gamma (IFN-γ) is a critical cytokine involved in immune responses against intracellular pathogens. It plays a key role in activating macrophages, enhancing antigen presentation, and promoting antiviral and antimicrobial activities. In the context of tuberculosis, IFN-γ is essential for macrophage activation, leading to the production of reactive oxygen species and the restriction of mycobacterial growth. Additionally, IFN-γ upregulates MHC class I and II expression, which is vital for effective antigen presentation and immune response. In guinea pigs, IFN-γ has been shown to have antiviral properties, protecting fibroblast cells from viral infections. It also induces morphological changes in macrophages, enhancing their ability to combat infections. These functions make IFN-γ a key player in the immune defense mechanisms of guinea pigs.
