Target Information
Guinea pig Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) is a multifunctional cytokine that promotes cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation. It plays a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration, particularly in the liver. HGF also exhibits anti-fibrotic properties by inhibiting the activity of TGF-β1, a key factor in fibrosis. In guinea pigs, HGF has been shown to protect cochlear hair cells from noise-induced damage when applied locally using biodegradable gelatin hydrogels. Additionally, HGF is involved in the development of lens-induced myopia, where it regulates the expression of MMP-2 in scleral fibroblasts. These findings highlight HGF's potential in therapeutic applications for hearing loss and myopia.
