Target Information
Goat melatonin receptor 1A (MTNR1A) is a G protein-coupled receptor that is primarily involved in the seasonal regulation of reproductive activity. It is expressed in various tissues, including the hypothalamus and the pars tuberalis of the pituitary gland, and plays a significant role in mediating the effects of melatonin on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. This receptor is crucial for the photoperiodic control of pulsatile luteinizing hormone secretion, which is essential for the timing of reproductive activity in small ruminants like goats . MTNR1A is also implicated in non-reproductive effects such as antioxidant properties, seasonal molting, temperature and cardiovascular regulation, immunomodulation, microbiota regulation, and regulation of skeletal muscle growth and development, which can significantly impact the productive and reproductive performance of goats.
