Target Information
The 3ABC protein is a non-structural protein (NSP) cleaved from the FMDV polyprotein during viral replication in host cells. Because conventional FMDV vaccines are highly purified to remove NSPs, the presence of antibodies against 3ABC serves as the definitive marker to differentiate infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA strategy). Consequently, recombinant 3ABC antigens and specific monoclonal antibodies targeting its 3B or 3C regions are the industry-standard components used in companion blocking ELISA diagnostics.
