Target Information

In felines, parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a principal hormone released by the parathyroid glands, regulating blood calcium levels by increasing bone resorption, renal calcium reabsorption, and intestinal calcium absorption. PTH secretion rises with low blood calcium and falls with high levels to maintain calcium homeostasis. It also activates vitamin D in the kidneys, indirectly influencing calcium uptake. Clinically, PTH levels are used to diagnose parathyroid disorders, such as hyperparathyroidism.
