Target Information

NT-proBNP is a key cardiac biomarker in cats, released by cardiomyocytes in response to increased wall stress or volume overload, which are common signs of heart disease. The prohormone is cleaved into the biologically active BNP and the more stable, inactive NT-proBNP fragment. Its concentration in the blood is a useful diagnostic tool for veterinary clinicians to screen for occult cardiomyopathy, differentiate cardiac from respiratory causes of distress, and assess the severity of feline heart disease.
