Target Information
Feline NT-proBNP is a prohormone cleavage product secreted by cardiomyocytes in response to increased myocardial wall stretch. Unlike active BNP, this N-terminal fragment is biologically inactive but possesses a longer half-life, making it a superior clinical biomarker. It is the gold standard for diagnosing Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and distinguishing cardiac from respiratory causes of dyspnea. Elevated levels correlate strongly with the severity of heart failure, providing high diagnostic sensitivity for asymptomatic feline heart disease.
