Target Information
In felines, Myocilin (MYOC) is a secreted glycoprotein expressed in ocular tissues like the trabecular meshwork and ciliary body, as well as in non-ocular organs such as the heart and skeletal muscle. It plays a role in cytoskeletal function and intraocular pressure regulation. MYOC is also involved in cell adhesion, extracellular matrix formation, and signaling via interactions with proteins like FN1 and NRCAM. In the eye, MYOC (also known as TIGR) is crucial for aqueous humor outflow, and its mutations can cause primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and juvenile-onset glaucoma. Abnormal accumulation of MYOC in the trabecular meshwork can obstruct aqueous outflow and increase intraocular pressure. In non-ocular tissues, MYOC is involved in neurogenesis, skeletal muscle hypertrophy, and extracellular matrix regulation.
