Target Information
In felines, feline major allergen I polypeptide chain 2 (CH2) is one of the two polypeptide chains that form the major allergen Fel d 1, together with CH1. CH2, composed of 92 amino acids, is a glycoprotein that binds to CH1 via disulfide bonds to form a heterodimer. Fel d 1 is primarily produced in the sebaceous and salivary glands and is transferred to the cat's fur through grooming. CH2 plays a key role in allergic reactions, triggering IgE-mediated responses such as rhinitis and asthma in sensitive individuals. Studies suggest that genetic variations in CH2 can affect its allergenicity, with some cat breeds (e.g., Siberian cats) having lower Fel d 1 production due to CH2 gene variants.
