In felines, alpha-lactalbumin (LALBA) is a major whey protein in milk. It forms the regulatory subunit of lactose synthase, working with β-1,4-galactosyltransferase to change substrate specificity and promote lactose synthesis. LALBA also has antimicrobial properties and provides essential amino acids to support growth and development in kittens.
