In felines, Feline Alanine-Glyoxylate Aminotransferase (AGXT) is an enzyme located in liver peroxisomes, involved in glyoxylate detoxification. AGXT converts glyoxylate to glycine, preventing its accumulation and maintaining metabolic balance. Its function is species-dependent and crucial for clearing harmful metabolites. AGXT mutations can lead to primary hyperoxaluria, a rare metabolic disease.
