Specifications
Target Information
VIM-2 is a potent Class B metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) that confers broad-spectrum resistance to nearly all beta-lactam antibiotics, including carbapenems, cephalosporins, and penicillins. It utilizes zinc ions in its active site to hydrolyze the beta-lactam ring via a water-dependent mechanism. Often carried on mobile genetic elements like integrons and plasmids, VIM-2 facilitates rapid horizontal gene transfer. Its inability to be inhibited by clinical inhibitors like clavulanic acid makes it a significant threat in multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative infections.
