Target Information

Horse GRIN1 (Glutamate Ionotropic Receptor NMDA Type Subunit 1) encodes the essential glycine-binding subunit of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Unlike other subunits, GRIN1 is mandatory for the formation of functional NMDA receptor complexes. As a ligand-gated ion channel, it mediates calcium influx critical for long-term potentiation, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation. In equine research, it is studied for its role in neurodevelopmental processes and the pathophysiology of neurological disorders and chronic pain signaling.
