Target Information

Equine ferritin heavy chain (FHC) is a subunit of the ferritin protein complex found in horses, which is vital for iron storage and management. Ferritin is a spherical multi-subunit protein composed of 24 subunits, and the heavy chain, along with the light chain, forms the ferritin shell that can store iron in a non-toxic form. The FHC possesses ferroxidase activity, enabling the oxidation of Fe2+ to Fe3+, which is then stored within the ferritin shell. This process is essential for maintaining iron homeostasis and protecting cells from iron-induced oxidative damage.
