Target Information

Ehrlichia is a genus of obligate intracellular, Gram-negative rickettsial bacteria transmitted by ixodid ticks, primarily causing ehrlichiosis in humans and canines. They target and replicate inside the vacuoles of hematopoietic cells, forming microcolonies called morulae. Key targets for serological diagnostics and therapeutic research include major outer membrane proteins-specifically the 28-kDa outer membrane protein family (OMP-1/P28)-and tandem repeat proteins (such as TRP120 and TRP32), which play critical roles in host cell entry, adhesion, and immune evasion.
