Target Information

DIT33 is a 26-33 kDa aspartyl protease inhibitor and a major excretory-secretory (ES) protein of Dirofilaria immitis. As a member of the conserved filarial inhibitor family, it plays a vital role in modulating the host's proteolytic environment to facilitate larval migration and survival. Because it is highly immunogenic and detectable during the pre-patent phase (before adult worms mature), DIT33 is a premier biomarker for the early diagnosis of canine heartworm infection and a key target for recombinant vaccine development.
