Target Information
TcdB is a potent exotoxin and primary virulence factor of Clostridioides difficile. It functions as a glucosyltransferase that targets and inactivates Rho-family GTPases (Rho, Rac, and Cdc42) within the host cell cytoplasm. This disruption leads to actin cytoskeleton reorganization, massive cell rounding (cytopathic effect), and eventual apoptosis. As a critical driver of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis, TcdB is a major focus for neutralizing antibody therapies and vaccine development.
