Target Information

Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A is one of the most poisonous biological substances known. It is produced as a progenitor complex and processed into a dichain consisting of a Heavy Chain (HC) and a Light Chain (LC) linked by a disulfide bond. The HC mediates highly specific binding to neuronal receptors and translocation, while the LC acts as a zinc-dependent endopeptidase. It specifically cleaves SNAP-25, a SNARE protein essential for acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions, leading to flaccid paralysis and its well-known therapeutic and cosmetic applications.
