Target Information

N-pro (N-terminal autoprotease) is the first protein translated from the CSFV polyprotein. It possesses a unique autocatalytic activity, cleaving itself from the nascent polyprotein at the C-terminus. Beyond its proteolytic role, N-pro is a potent interferon (IFN) antagonist. It promotes the degradation of Interferon Regulatory Factor 3 (IRF3) via the proteasome pathway, effectively suppressing the host's innate immune response. This dual function as both an enzyme and an immune-evasion factor is vital for establishing persistent viral infection.
