Target Information

E2 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein responsible for host cell receptor binding. It serves as the primary attachment protein, interacting with the host receptor Mxra8 to initiate infection. Synthesized as a p62 precursor, it is cleaved into mature E2 before forming heterodimers with the E1 protein. Because E2 is the most exposed surface component of the virion, it is the dominant target for neutralizing antibodies, making it a critical focus for vaccine design and diagnostic assay development.
