Target Information

The E1 glycoprotein is a class II viral fusion protein essential for Chikungunya virus entry into host cells. It facilitates pH-dependent membrane fusion within the endosome following receptor-mediated endocytosis. E1 forms a heterodimer with the E2 protein on the viral surface, forming the characteristic spikes. During infection, the acidic environment triggers E1 dissociation from E2 and its subsequent insertion into the host membrane, making it a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and fusion-inhibitor drug development.
