Target Information
Chicken Paired Box Protein Pax-1 (PAX1) is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in embryonic development, particularly in the formation of segmented structures and the development of the axial and appendicular skeleton. In chicken embryos, PAX1 is essential for the proper segmentation of somites and sclerotomal differentiation. It also acts synergistically with Pax9 to mediate Shh signaling from the notochord and floor plate, directly inducing Bapx1 (Nkx3.2) expression in chondrogenic differentiation of sclerotomal cells. PAX1 is involved in maintaining cartilage structure and integrity, and its expression is critical for normal skeletal development.
