Target Information

Chicken osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a secreted protein that plays a critical role in bone metabolism by inhibiting osteoclast formation, function, and survival. It acts as a decoy receptor for RANKL, preventing its interaction with RANK on osteoclasts and thus inhibiting bone resorption. In chickens, OPG is produced by cells of the osteoblast lineage and is involved in maintaining the balance between bone formation and resorption, which is essential for skeletal health and disease prevention such as osteoporosis.
